First impression

These no-nonsense Grisport Lady Hurricane Brown Boots remind us of the hiking boots available 20 years ago – in a good way. The classic Hurricanes may not be the most striking or stylish hiking boots in the world, but they’re great as solid and dependable leather hikers that you can pull on day after day – they’re waterproof, warm and give feet good protection on tough terrain.

On the trails

Having trail tested the Grisport Lady Hurricane Brown Boots in the kind of wet weather the UK reliably delivers by the bucketload, we can confirm that the waterproof Spotex membrane keeps feet dry even in pounding rain. We also really rate the lacing system, which stays put and keeps the cushioned top of the boot snug around your ankle.

They are also surprisingly lightweight, considering their chunky looks, weighing in at 445g per boot. On the downside, they aren’t very breathable, and you may feel the need to swap to a fabric boot from late spring onwards.

The Hurricanes are cut rather on the narrow side, so you may need to try them in a size up, or go for a different boot if you have particularly wide feet or suffer from bunions or the like. There’s no getting around the fact that these boots do look and feel rather massive when they’re on your feet, especially considering you may need to order a size up to get a good fit.

All things considered, however, the Grisport Lady Hurricane Brown Boots are a solid choice, both in looks and performance – and with care, these boots should last you for years to come.
