Scottish tent brand launches new recycled plastic product range
Vango strengthens sustainability goals with eco-conscious Earth Collection of tents, rucksacks, chairs and sleeping bags
Outdoor equipment company Vango - a brand featured on our list of the best tents - has launched a new range of products that aims to recycle the plastic waste equivalent to almost two million bottles.
The Scottish brand's new Earth Collection includes tents, rucksacks, camping chairs and sleeping bags. They have been made using environmentally friendly fabric crafted from recycled single use plastics.
The Earth Collection will recycle the plastic waste equivalent to 1,861,134 bottles (500ml) this year – and, in 2022, the plan is to grow this recycling target to the equivalent of 8,250,000 plastic bottles (500ml)..
The Earth range is the latest in Vango's eco-conscious initiatives. More than a decade ago, the company introduced a Spare and Repairs Service so that consumers could have access to refurbishing their outdoor gear.
Where anything is beyond repair, all component parts are recycled for use in future repairs, as well as upcycling as much of the remaining fabrics as possible. This includes tent fabrics and sleeping bag fillings (more on these in our guide to the best sleeping bags) being donated to the Sheltersuit Foundation, to be upcycled into immediate shelter for the homeless.
Vango’s sustainability mission is also being shared digitally through a series of artistic posters, each one highlighting the various sustainable efforts. These include partnerships with the National Trust and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, where they fund conservation projects and outdoor kit for those in need.
Rob Birrell, Vango’s marketing director, said: “For over a decade, we have been working towards a more sustainable future.
