Sporting Wholesale Ltd, who are the owners of NGT tackle, have just acquired Surrey’s Twynersh Fishery in Chertsey, for £1.15 million.
There are eight lakes on the site and the deal with the NGT tackle firm also gives them a small stretch of the River Bourne.
Company boss Eddy Eliaz, man behind the popular NGT tackle ranges, revealed all about their ambitious plans for redevelopment.
Eddy explained: ““Overall our business is doing very well with a turnover of £8 million and we supply over 2,000 retail outlets in the UK and Europe.
“We are delighted with the acquisition of a good fishery but it does need a lot of improvement in a number of areas.
“We are planning to create specialist lakes by draining them all in turn, clearing the bottoms of debris and moving the fish around, with some additional restocking.”
Eddy continued: “We will have a big carp lake, a match lake with only silver fish, a predator lake and one for more mixed fishing, so there should be something for everyone.
“There is a lot of tree work which needs doing, with too many trees in the water that need to be cleared.
“Then there are a lot of steep banks with very uncomfortable swims and we plan to make them all good fishing platforms.
“We will improve road access round the lakes for the benefit of disabled anglers, and generally improve the facilities.
“Currently there is only one toilet but we plan to have three plus portaloos around the site, and we will build a shower block.
“We also plan to install taps for running water on the main lake plus an electricity point.
“Currently there is an onsite bungalow which we are going to convert into a small tackle shop where refreshments will also be available, and we are considering organising a hot-meal service with delivery to lake side.
“We have appointed Chris Riley as head bailiff and will have two more part-time bailiffs in due course.
“At present the fishery operates on a day ticket basis Thursday to Sunday but members only the other three days. We will keep that as it is for the rest of this season and decide during the winter how to operate in future.
“We are likely to have some mixture of syndicate only lakes and day ticket availability.
“The fishery will remain open during the work which will be done one lake at a time and will start as soon as possible, with a view to full completion by May/June.”
