Zepp Health has unveiled an upgraded operating system for its Amazfit smartwatches that should help your watch understand voice commands better and even allow it to talk back to you.

The Zepp OS 4 offers integration with OpenAI's GPT-4o AI tech, to give users more advanced voice control over their smartwatches than ever before.

Zepp says the new operating system delivers, “a suite of innovative features and enhancements… set to redefine user experience, offering unparalleled convenience, accuracy, and engagement".

Zepp OS 4 comes as part of the sixth software update for the Amazfit Balance and Amazfit Active. Support for the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra, Falcon and Cheetah series will come later in 2024.

Key highlights include:

Enhanced Zepp Flow integration: Zepp OS 4 introduces an upgraded Zepp Flow, which uses OpenAI's GPT-4o technology to enable better natural language interactions. Users can control their devices through voice commands, without the need for specific keywords or physical touch. This allows users to reply to instant messages from Android apps like WhatsApp (iOS will be supported in the near future) and make Bluetooth phone calls by voice alone.

Expanded language and voice capabilities: Now your watch can talk back to you in spoken English and German, with French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese voice replies coming in late July.

Enhanced Bluetooth and Messaging integration: Owners can now use their Amazfit devices to control compatible devices via Bluetooth, such as Sonos speakers, Garmin cycling meters and even GoPro and DJI action cameras.

Innovative mini apps and fitness solutions: Zepp OS 4 has also unveiled an array of mini apps, tailored for health and fitness enthusiasts, from positioning aids to specialized fitness tests. The Workout Extension mini app caters specifically to sports enthusiasts and personalizes the user’s watch interface during workouts. It's compatible with Zepp OS 3.5 devices like the Cheetah series, Falcon and T-Rex Ultra.

These upgrades are being rolled out across the Amazfit range as we speak, so you may not see the change immesiately, but Amazfit assures us it's coming.
